Roman Walks

Art & creative photography

Project

The initial scenario, in 2017, gave rise to a picture publication project, based on photography, and able to enhance the photographic collection that characterized Image Factory (a collection about urban landscape and set portrait). The project included a magazine which, thanks to the topic of travel, would be able to walk the reader through the discovery of Rome’s artistic and historical attractions and of European Grand Tour’s stunning places.

History

Roman Walks was planned during 2018 and founded at the end of that year by the editor in chief, Gabriel Rifilato, the art director, Floriana Cason, the photographers, Livia Mazzani and Roberto Scardoni, the art historian, Bruna Condoleo, and the painter and tour guide, Armando Moreschi.

Missions

Ca’ Art Studio Image Factory expresses itself through the neo-pictorialism of “creative photography”. No consideration for “digital or analogue” cameras’ “brands and models”, “applications and filters”, but rather for the photographic vision that uses machines and technology in the same way a painter uses a paintbrush: to create meanings and stories behind images, allure, intensity, magic.

The main section of Roman Walks is dedicated to a photographic, monographic and collector’s “Walk”, according to an editorial plan that, starting from Rome and its great attractions, presents the unknown sides of other European Grand Tour fascinating destinations such as Venice, Milan, Arles and Florence. Within the 100 pages of the magazine, the experiential photographic Walk represents the “collector’s” component, with its path aimed to explore the history of the city, as well as Rome and Grand Tour places’ ancient and modern grandiosity. Another section of the magazine is “Where & Why”, with protagonists’ profiles and interviews in fascinating places between art and history: discovering historical buildings and dwellings, old taverns, art galleries, fashion houses, cinemas and other stunning experiences both in Rome and in Lazio, both in Italy and in Grand Tour-crossed Europe. The third and last part of the magazine, “Image Factory”, is a theme in-depth analysis section, with photo galleries, creative pictures, great authors’ comments (What does a nice photo stand for?), artistic partners’ stories (Stories behind images) and incitements to “seek for the artist within us”.

Audience and profile of the readers

Thanks to its bilingualism, this magazine has a wide international public, most adults who are curious of discovering places, people and who are ready to get kidnapped by unusual pictures. A reader who loves to travel in an experiential way, a reader who is keen on art, cinema, fashion and photography, no matter what he is an expert or a beginner.
Roman Walks is also aimed at institutions and organizations, both touristic, both educational, both Italian, both international, such as: schools, educators, libraries, galleries, museums, institutions of art, culture and entertainment, boutique hotel, historic houses, and collectors.

Innovation and sustainability

Features in the proposal of Roman Walks:

– the original vision of “Pictorialism” photography, that is creative and evocative, – the innovative iconographic aspect of the publication, that is compact and accurate,

– the ecological choice for a sustainable tourism,

– the narration of stories through the words of the protagonists who tell the myths, vices, and virtues of the Eternal City and of the Grand Tour.

– the bilingual communication (Italian and English version).

Another innovative aspect that characterizes the periodical is its spread throughout the “virtual magazine”, the digital newsstand. That is a tool that allows the reader to always have the online versions of the publications.

Demands that Roman Walks wants to meet

The demand for experiential travel, both faced live and lived reading them sitting on their sofa. The need-to-know places, myths, characters, legends, and cultures related to the artistic heritage of the eternal city and what Rome represents in the world. The dissemination of the city’s major destinations to the international public.

Competition

Unlike the more traditional travel magazines, which represent the artistic attractions and places to visit through a report as they are, our creative project is characterized by the narration of Rome, its destinations, and its most typical themes, with evocative images, with a Neo-Pictorialism style creative photography of the magazine’s Image Factory.

The authenticity of Roman Walks and the reason of its success

The focus of the magazine is on the historical and artistic attractions of Rome, a place and many topics of great interest that have always attracted visitors from all over the world. The narrative of the magazine is creative and innovative, thanks to the emphasis given to the “more artistic and less touristy” point of view. Communication also uses innovative tools such as the web. .
